Birdwatching in Ria Formosa Natural Park
Ria Formosa is one of the most important and well known Portuguese wetlands and is home to a diversity of habitats spanning almost 60 kilometers of the Algarvean coast. Barrier islands, coastal lagoons, marshes, dunes and wooded areas are some of the habitats that make up this beautiful natural haven that is chosen dwelling for a vast community of birds.
During the cold season and migrations, more than 30.000 birds adorn this region adding a flourish and combination of colour and uniqueness otherwise unseen elsewhere. From colonies of bright pink Flamingos to majestic birds of prey, diverse species of Waders to Swamp Hens, stunning Red Crested Pochards to Slender-Billed Gulls, we are truly spoilt by the array of different species that grace this beautiful part of the Algarve.
In this natural reserve our aim is to practise observation whilst maintaining highest standards of respect for the environment as well as the resident and migrating birds.
Birdwatching tours in the Ria Formosa are organised in groups of 1 to 8 persons.
